I am going to start by saying that I do not own this particular lighter. I have used, done some troubleshooting, and filled this lighter so I have a pretty good idea of how it works. ST Dupont has a reputation for its absolute luxury and prestige. I do have to say sometime their lighters are finicky. Having owned several ST Dupont lighters, the maxi jet, in particular, I can tell you they are great lighters even though they are pricey. With that said regular maintenance is a must to keep them in good working order.
Ok, now on to what I like about the Defi XXtreme. One of the things I like most is the full-sized fuel that covers the entire left side. The flame adjuster is big enough and has a smooth action when making adjustments. I am also a huge fan of the side-mounted ignition because it’s cool looking. At the same time, I am not such a huge fan of the fact that it has a side-mounted ignition. I wrote a post on the most reliable lighters, and because of all the small parts, side triggers never seem to last as long as push-down ignitions.
This is a great lighter and if you feel like laying out the cash for it, you won’t regret it.
