Clipper lighters are durable, have unique designs and best of all are refillable. Instead of throwing away your Clipper lighter when it’s empty, you can just refill it. In this guide, we’ll show you the steps to refill up your Clipper one step at a time, so you can use it over and over again. In this short post, I’m going to cover a few simple steps on how to refill your Clipper lighter easily.
What You’ll Need to Refill Your Clipper.
- An empty Clipper lighter
- Butane refill can
- A small screwdriver or purge tool or something close to it
- Rag or cloth
Step 1: Gather Supplies To Refill Your Clipper
Get the stuff you need and make sure a space away from anything that could catch fire. Put out any smoking material or lit flames.
NOTE: It’s important to use high-quality butane when refilling. Using cheap and low-quality butane will clog up your lighter and cause it to die much faster. You can check out our post on quality butane to get some more info about why it’s important.
Step 2: Purge your Clipper
Purging a lighter means letting out any more gas and air from inside your lighter.
NOTE: If your lighter is still hot from use, let it cool down for at least five minutes.
If your Clipper has a flame adjuster, turn it down to the lowest level.
Lay out a rag or cloth under where you are going to purge and refill your Clipper lighter. Find the fuel nozzle that is going to be on the bottom of the Clipper. Grab your tool or screwdriver and touch it to the fuel nozzle.
Hold your lighter straight up and down with the fuel nozzle on the bottom. Now use the purging tool or screwdriver to push down on the fill nozzle.
Any remaining air and butane will come BLASTING out of the nozzle. Please be careful and never keep it near your face. You may have to do this a few times. Just keep depressing the nozzle until no more air or butane comes out.
Step 3: Get Ready To Fill Up Your Clipper Lighter
Drop the screwdriver or tool and flip your lighter bottom side up. That is so the fuel nozzle is facing up. Grab your butane can touch it to the fuel tube on the can to the fuel nozzle on the lighter.
Step 4: Fill Your Clipper Lighter
Push the fuel can hose on the fuel nozzle and press down. Apply firm and even pressure, so the gas flows from the butane can into the lighter. Hold the two together for about 5–10 seconds. You shouldn’t need any more than that.
Step 5: Check For Leaks
Check for Leaks After Refilling. Remove your butane can from the lighter and set it out of the way. Set your Clipper lighter down for two or three minutes. Now you can check for leaks. If you hear hissing sounds from the top or bottom or can feel butane coming out of the lighter.
If you run into any leaks after you refill your clipper lighter, chances are it is dead. Either a seal has blown out or the fuel nozzle is broken.
With all that being said, if everything goes well and you have no leaks, but your lighter doesn’t work or you are having problems after refilling, check out our post on clipper jet lighter not working for a simple troubleshooting guide.
